Course Description

In a world full of stressed, self-critical, anxious and depressed people, Compassion-Focussed Therapy (CFT) has taken the therapy world by storm. CFT is the antidote to this stress filled world. CFT literally transform lives, by introducing a new way for people to view themselves and radically reframe their lives. CFT is a form of therapy that draws upon evolution science, affective neuroscience, attachment therapy, and behaviourism in assisting individuals who suffer with emotional difficulties

About this workshop

We think you’ll love learning with Russell, who is a warm, ‘feet on the ground’ type of practitioner who knows both CFT and ACT inside out. He brings loads of practical, tried and tested CFT skills into his workshops that will enable you as a therapist to help clients with these emotional challenges to connect much more deeply and compassionately with themselves.

Each new intervention will be briefly introduced by Russell, complete with specific suggestions about how to implement it,  and then participants will be able to practice and explore using the technique in small groups.  This will be followed by an exploration and Q&A to unpack how it went, explore how to work with obstacles, etc., the goal being that you’ll leave the sessions confident about using these powerful techniques immediately.

Who would benefit from this workshop?

Meant for practitioners who have received basic introductory training in CFT, this beginners workshop will help you practice several of the fundamental skills used by CFT therapists, so that you can feel comfortable putting them to work in the therapy room.

We highly recommend this workshop for mental health professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners and mental health counsellors.

Please note Contextual Consulting also hosts a more advanced level CFT workshop with Russell Kolts, called “Supercharge you CFT”. You can read more about this workshop here.

Learning objectives:
  1. Introducing the CFT definition of compassion in a manner designed to address resistance.
  2. Guide clients through an exploration of old-brain/new-brain dynamics.
  3. Guide clients in exploring and understanding the three-systems model of emotions in relation to their own lives.
  4. Facilitate “not-your-fault” realisations in relation to the clients social shaping, and introduce a simple practice they can use to bridge between such realisation and compassionate action in real time.
