Super-charge your CFT
Building compassion into every aspect of your therapy
Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) is a revolutionary approach to therapy that has gained widespread recognition in the current era of high stress, self-criticism, anxiety, and depression. CFT is a transformative therapy that offers individuals a new perspective on themselves and their lives. This therapy draws from a range of fields, including evolutionary science, affective neuroscience, attachment theory, and behaviourism, to help individuals tackle emotional difficulties and improve their mental well-being. Through its emphasis on compassion and kindness, CFT encourages individuals to reframe their lives and transform their relationship with themselves and others. This workshop is particularly aimed at intermediate-level practitioners who seek to help individuals develop a greater sense of self-compassion and resilience in the face of emotional challenges.
About this workshop
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) is a form of therapy that draws upon evolution science, affective neuroscience, attachment therapy, and behaviourism in assisting individuals who suffer with emotional difficulties. Meant for practitioners who have received prior introductory training in CFT, this workshop presents an organising framework for conducting CFT that goes beyond typical CFT practices and exercises that is designed to help clinicians understand how to infuse compassion into every aspect of the therapeutic interaction. Using the SMST (support-model-shape-train) framework, we’ll explore together how to set the stage for compassion to arise in our clients, how to implicitly teach compassionate working through modelling, how to systematically shape compassion in our clients, and how to use compassionate-mind training practices to train compassionate capacities.
We think you’ll love learning with Russell, who is a warm, ‘feet on the ground’ type of practitioner who knows both CFT and ACT inside out. He brings loads of practical, tried and tested CFT skills into his workshops that will enable you as a therapist to help clients with these emotional challenges to connect much more deeply and compassionately with themselves.
Each new intervention will be briefly introduced by Russell, complete with specific suggestions about how to implement it, and then participants will be able to practice and explore using the technique in small groups. This will be followed by an exploration and Q&A to unpack how it went, explore how to work with obstacles, etc., the goal being that you’ll leave the sessions confident about using these powerful techniques immediately.
Who would benefit from this workshop?
We highly recommend this workshop for mental health professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners and licensed mental health counsellors.
