Active acceptance is a psychological concept that combines elements of mindfulness, acceptance, and action. It refers to the practice of acknowledging and accepting one’s thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment, while actively choosing to engage in behaviours that align with one’s values and goals.
When we avoid problematic, difficult or unwanted emotions, we can make it hard to focus on what matters to us. Rather than suppress the unwanted emotions, we can pause, slow down and simply allow the emotions to be there. This can allow us to respond to the feelings more flexibly.
