Psychological flexibility: How love turns pain into purpose – Steven Hayes TEDx talk

What strategies can we employ to thrive in the face of pain and suffering? The fundamental principal of ACT is based around developing psychological flexibility.

In this TEDx talk Steven C. Hayes, founder of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), condenses the core principles of psychological flexibility into easily graspable sentences. He takes the audience on a challenging journey into his own experience with panic disorder, leading up to the pivotal moment when he made a life-altering decision: to confront and embrace his own self. By making this choice, Hayes demonstrates how we can forge a connection with our intrinsic sense of purpose and significance. He argues that adopting a compassionate attitude towards our own suffering empowers us to spread love and make meaningful contributions to the world.

STEVEN C HAYES currently holds the position of Nevada Foundation Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada.
