The adult attitude to grief scale (AAG) can be helpful to understand an individual’s perception of their grief. It can be used to guide conversations in therapy as well as helping clients to grasp their own emotions. This can, in turn, promote their psychological flexibility and bring their focus to their core values.
The AAG scale was created to validate concepts within the Range of Response to Loss (RRL) model. It identifies three key grief response categories: overwhelmed, controlled, and resilient (Machin, 2001). The AAG is a 9-item Likert scale, with varied responses from strongly agree to strongly disagree.
