The sky and the weather – a metaphor – Dr M Joann Wright

In this short clip Joann discusses a simple but powerful metaphor – the sky and the weather.

“You are the sky and your experiences are merely the weather.”

We can use this metaphor to explain putting yourself in the contextual place. The sky contains the weather and the sky stays constant while the weather comes and goes.

DR M. JOANN WRIGHT is a clinical psychologist in the USA, specialising in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy since 2004. She is the Executive Director of ACT One, an organisation which provides global workshops, consultation, and supervision and has co-authored two ACT books aimed at assisting other therapists with their ACT work.
