Top technique to try with young people in ACT therapy – Dr Ben Sedley

In this short clip from Dr Ben Sedley, taken from our ‘Expert tips for ACT’ series, Ben shares a top technique that he finds can be really helpful when starting acceptance and commitment therapy with young people. Asking one simple question at the start of the first session – “What are you most proud of about your kid?” unlocks a wealth of insight into the young person and their family dynamics that can make our early assessments as therapists so much easier.

BEN SEDLEY is a clinical psychologist and author of a book introducing ACT ideas directly to teens – “Stuff That Sucks,: accepting what you can’t change and Committing to what you can” and co-author of ‘Stuff that’s Loud: A Teen’s Guide to Unspiralling when OCD gets noisy’ with Lisa Coyne.
