russ220x181Dr. Russ Harris brings his highly acclaimed ADVANCED Skills Building Intensive 2-day workshop to London on the 10th & 11th July 2015.

Take your ACT skills to the next level with this 2-day hands-on, skills-building “Boot Camp”.

READY TO TAKE THE PLUNGE? NOW YOU’VE COMPLETED THE INTRODUCTORY AND INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOPS, ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP?
TO PROGRESS TO A HIGHER LEVEL?
TO RAMP UP YOUR ACT SKILLS WITH 2-DAYS OF INTENSIVE ‘HANDS-ON’ TRAINING?

In this workshop, you will get to play around with all sorts of useful tools, techniques and strategies, experiment with new ways of working, and discover for yourself just how creative, spontaneous, and adaptable ACT can be.

You’ll see plenty of live demonstrations, and participate in numerous innovative exercises.

You will get to do numerous role-play activities in dyads and triads, and experiment with creating, modifying and adapting ACT techniques to suit your own personal style.

This will be challenging, engaging, and lots of fun!

In particular, you’ll be exposed to brand new never-seen-before material from Russ’s forthcoming textbook, Sessions with IMPACT: Interpersonal Mindulness Skills in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. For example, you’ll learn how to use the four key IMPACT questions, and the ‘S.L.O.W’ technique to instigate, model and reinforce psychological flexibility throughout every session, and how to rapidly spot and target ’The Four Horsemen of Fusion & Avoidance’ – Gating, Baiting, Skating and Stating.

So if you come prepared to apply yourself fully and leap in at the deep end, you will finish these two days with a big increase in your confidence about doing ACT.

What You Will Learn

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to respond more flexibly and fluently to your clients
  • How to track your sessions on multiple levels
  • How to “bring yourself into therapy”: i.e. explicitly use the therapeutic relationship, and work at an interpersonal level
  • How to do “empty-handed ACT’ (i.e. to be spontaneous, without relying on “canned’ metaphors and well-rehearsed exercises)
  • How to do ultra-brief case-conceptualisation – in as little as 5 minutes
  • How to improve your ability to design & match interventions to a range of clinically-relevant behavior
  • How to rapidly spot and target the ‘Four Horsemen of Fusion & Avoidance’ – Gating, Baiting, Skating and Stating
  • How to recognize the four main ‘Self’ problems: the disconnected self, the underdeveloped self, the labeled self, and the unstable self.
  • How to develop the ‘Flexible Self’: use ACT processes to target the four common ‘Self’ problems, and instead develop a flexible and healthy sense of self
  • How to use the four key IMPACT questions and the S.L.O.W. technique to model, instigate, and reinforce psychological flexibility throughout every session
  • How to recognise and overcome your own barriers to responding flexibly in session
  • How to generate new ideas for long term clients when you’ve already used all the tools in your ACT toolkit
  • How to use the “Choice Point” tool to rapidly set up and provide a structure for a session.
  • How to watch different behavioral streams unfolding, moment-by-moment- and intervene skillfully

About the Presenter

Russ Harris, author of the international best-selling self-help book ‘The Happiness Trap’, is an world-renowned trainer of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). Russ’s background is in medicine. As a GP he became increasingly interested in the psychological aspects of health and wellbeing, and increasingly disenchanted with writing prescriptions. Ultimately this interest led to a total career change. He now works in two different, yet complementary roles – as a therapist and as a coach – with over 12,000 hours of one-on-one sessions under his belt.

Since 2005, Russ has provided ACT training for over 15,000 Australian therapists, coaches, counselors, doctors, and other health professionals. He has authored two ACT textbooks (including ACT Made Simple)The Happiness Trap is now the most widely-translated ACT book in the world, available in over thirty countries and twenty-two languages.

Russ has a unique model for training, which he calls ‘ACT Made Simple’, because it covers so much material in a short space of time. He proudly proclaims each workshop a ‘jargon-free zone’ – and bases his training on three core values: simplicity, clarity, and having fun. His highly-acclaimed ACT workshops are brief, powerful, cost-effective and life-enhancing. Participants regularly report not only major improvements in their therapy and/or coaching, but also in their personal lives – and evaluation forms frequently praise his ability to make complex ideas seem very simple.
