Jennifer Berrett

Dr. Jennifer Berrett is a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist with significant experience in both NHS perinatal-related services including maternity services, and academic research. She divides her time between clinical practice at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and research at Cardiff University, where she focuses on perinatal mental health and the application of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) .

Jennifer has a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing Hyperemesis Gravidarum and perinatal trauma, including birth trauma and pregnancy loss . She also works 1 day a week in a service supporting perinatal women who are seeking sanctuary and/or experienced female genital mutilation (FGM). Her therapeutic approach integrates ACT, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) to address trauma, grief, and identity challenges during the perinatal period .

As a researcher, Jennifer is part of a team investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of remotely delivered ACT interventions for perinatal mental health . She has also published papers within other populations, e.g, ASD research.

Jennifer works closely with Dr Cerith Waters, where they lead a research project looking at remote delivered ACT for perinatal mental health.
