Freddy Jackson Brown
Dr Freddy Jackson Brown is an HCPC-registered Chartered Clinical Psychologist and ACT therapist with over 20 years’ experience working with children and families in the NHS. Based in Bristol, his clinical work spans child development, communication, behaviour, autism and intellectual disability, with a particular focus on working with the systems around the young person across home, school and community settings.
Freddy is a widely published author. His books include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Dummies (with Duncan Gillard), the parents’ guide When Young People with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Hit Puberty (with Sarah Brown), The Science of Children’s Wellbeing (with Duncan Gillard, Corinna Grindle, Nic Hooper and Russell Hancock), and the popular ACT Diary and ACT Journal series (with Nic Hooper and colleagues). His latest book, Supporting the Wellbeing of Autistic Children and Young People: An Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Approach, offers a practical, neurodiversity-affirming guide to building emotional resilience in autistic young people using ACT and the DNA-V model.
Alongside his books, Freddy has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on ACT, behaviour analysis, disability and child wellbeing, and teaches on postgraduate training programmes in child development, disability and communication. His work is known for translating contextual behavioural science into practical, compassionate approaches that families and professionals can actually use.
