Following our A-Z of ACT, we challenged ourselves to come up with an A-Z of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) metaphors too. Metaphors are a popular and powerful tool for therapy where we can utilise language to explain, simplify and empathise, allowing us to work with clients to facilitate behavioural change.
Here is our list of 26 metaphors commonly used in ACT, but there are of course many more that you might like to utilise, or indeed create your own. For a more detailed explanation of each of these metaphors, take a look at our blog.
