Focused acceptance and commitment therapy (also referred to us FACT) condenses the core principles of ACT into a shorter protocol, typically 2-4 sessions, making it ideal for time-limited settings. This practical approach can be extremely useful within modern settings such as healthcare, prisons, counselling, employee assistance programmes (EAPs) etc where real-world impact is required in ever shorter timeframes.
Here, we present three detailed (fictional) case studies demonstrating how FACT can be applied effectively to support clients when intervention opportunities are time-sparse.
FACT case studies:
GP practice: Providing brief intervention within 25 minutes.

Prison setting: A brief therapy session during a prison behavioural health consultation.

Hospital ward: A 20-minute consultation by the ward psychologist within a 20-minute session during daily rounds.

FACT was originally developed by Dr Kirk Strosahl and Dr Patricia Robinson and you can read more about it in our knowledge hub article: Focused ACT: a brief and effective behavioural intervention
